The Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (RGVMPO) has finalized a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to address and reduce serious injuries and fatalities related to transportation within our region. With safety as a top priority, this plan is built on a data-driven, community-focused approach that supports long-term, impactful improvements across our transportation network.

What the Plan Does

The Comprehensive Safety Action Plan:

• Analyzes crash trends and contributing factors using the latest regional data
• Identifies priority areas for safety improvements and high-risk locations
• Recommends safety strategies, including system-wide countermeasures and location-specific projects
• Coordinates efforts among local agencies and jurisdictions across the MPO planning area
• Establishes performance measures to monitor progress and accountability

Project Area

The plan covers the entire RGVMPO planning area, encompassing Cameron, Hidalgo, and Starr County, and includes urban and rural transportation systems.
